France will take on Argentina in 2022 FIFA World Cup final
On Wednesday, France secured a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final by defeating Morocco 2-0. At Al Bayt Stadium, the reigning world champions opened the scoring in the fifth minute courtesy of defender Theo Hernandez. The Frenchman fired a powerful left-footed volley past Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, giving his side the advantage. They will now face Argentina in the final this weekend.
Olivier Giroud of France had a shot on goal in the 17th minute, but it went off the crossbar. Soon afterward, Morocco captain Romain Saiss had to leave the game due to an injury, and Selim Amallah took his place. This was an unexpected substitution for the African team. Giroud was left open in a swift attack by France, but he failed to make the most of it in the 35th minute.
France was able to widen the gap in the 79th minute as Randal Kolo Muani, who had just been subbed in, scored an easy chance. This was Muani’s first goal in international play and ended up being the game-deciding goal. France achieved a 2-0 victory, granting them access to the fourth World Cup final. Come Sunday, Les Bleus will face off against Argentina at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen.
The French have already won the World Cup twice, in 1998 and 2018, but were defeated in 2006 final. Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, won the World Cup twice in 1978 and 1986, and were the runners-up in 1930, 1990, and 2014.
