“Who let Lukaku & Hazard in?” – Twitter reacts as Belgium announce their 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Despite concerns about his fitness, Romelu Lukaku has been selected for Belgium’s 26-man World Cup squad in Qatar. Lukaku seemed to have complied with the head coach Roberto Martinez’s warning that he had to prove his fitness for the group stage if he was to be included to the squad. Divock Origi of Milan was left off, leaving no room for another forward playing in Serie A, although Charles De Ketelaere, a teammate, is included.
Loads of players from the Premier League are selected, including Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, as well as Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City, in-form winger Leandro Trossard of Brighton and Hove Albion, and midfielders Amadou Onana and Leander Dendoncker of Everton and Aston Villa respectively.
Martinez chooses Eden Hazard as one of his strikers despite the fact that he has only played two games for Real Madrid this year. Meanwhile, clubmate Thibaut Courtois, who won the Golden Glove in Russia 2018, will be looking for another strong campaign on an individual level.
