Why retaining Cesar Azpilicueta wont be a beneficial deal for Chelsea?

Cesar Azpilicueta has agreed to a new two-year deal that would keep him with Chelsea through June 2024.
Chelsea‘s decision of retaining their club captain can be a costly one for them. Azpilicueta is in his 30s and falls down the pecking order behind Reece James in the right back position.
With the arrival of Koulibaly and Thiago Silva still not deteriorating, Cesar Azpilicueta won’t be a starter for the Blues for sure. Barcelona were keen to sign the Spaniard and it would make perfect sense for Chelsea to offload him and get some cash instead of him.
Cesar Azpilicueta extends Chelsea contract:
The Spain international’s previous contract was scheduled to expire this summer, but a performance-related option was turned on, resulting in an automatic extension of his contract by another year.
A transfer target for Barcelona nonetheless, Azpilicueta has been the subject of direct talks between the two parties. However, no deal was made, and the 32-year-old has already signed a contract with Chelsea, lessening their desire to add players to that area of the field.
Sources within the organization applaud Azpilicueta’s leadership, notably during the time when Chelsea was subject to fines and the following ownership transition.
Considering the exits of Toni Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, manager Thomas Tuchel was reportedly determined to keep Azpilicueta, especially given the veteran Spaniard’s leadership and influence at the Blues.
“I am really happy to extend my stay at Chelsea, my home,” said Azpilicueta.
The addition of Kalidou Koulibaly to the center-back position provides real talent, steel, and intelligence, but Tuchel still values Azpilicueta’s leadership and Premier League experience highly.
The signing of Azpilicueta to a new contract will ease some of the burdens on the Blues’ recruiting efforts, particularly if Marcos Alonso completes his own long-planned transfer to Barcelona later this summer.
