“Why they spent £100 million for him”- Jack Grealish might go back to Aston Villa if he fails to perform at Manchester City, claims former football striker

If Jack Grealish’s performance for Manchester City doesn’t improve as quickly as possible, he may end up back at Aston Villa, according to his manager.

This follows the English player’s subsequent lackluster performance in City’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the FA Community Shield.

After goals from Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander Arnold at Leicester’s King Power stadium, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds won their first prize of the year. The goal for Pep Guardiola’s team came from the recent acquisition of Julian Alvarez.

Nearly an hour into the game, Grealish was substituted by Phil Foden after failing to make an impression. After making a record transfer to the Etihad the previous season, the former Villa player is the subject of intense scrutiny.

Jack Grealish has struggled for consistency since signing for Manchester City:

In 28 Premier League games, he only managed to score three goals, making it a disappointing debut season for him.

Grealish needs to improve his form, says former Villa attacker Tony Cascarino, or the club may decide to let him go.

“At the end of the season, if he doesn’t lift up his standards, what we know he’s capable of, and why they spent £100 million for him, he may wind himself back at Villa,” he said on talkSPORT.

“He’s not performing consistently good enough for Man City. I’m not referring to being a six out of 10 as OK. He ought to be around eight or nine. He is really high caliber.”

Roy Keane, a former captain of Manchester United, also offered his opinion on Grealish’s challenging beginning under Guardiola.

He said: “We’ll try and give Jack the benefit of the doubt. We’re thinking maybe he should have gone to City and maybe adapted a bit quicker but sometimes it can be difficult.”

We’ve observed him being benched for crucial City matches, and Gareth [Southgate] has done the same with England. Jack needs to realize that in order to be a really top player, he needs to step up a bit more, and the manager needs to put some faith in him.

Will Grealish be able to prove himself in the upcoming campaign? Time will only tell.
