From Spain to Paris and now the USA, Lionel Messi is currently in the process of wooing audiences in the MLS. The World Cup winner kicked off his first ‘full’ season at the club after his arrival in July of last year. Ever since his debut at Chase Stadium last year, celebrities from all over the world have flocked to see the Argentine. Will Smith has become the latest to link-up with the superstar as seen on the Hollywood actor’s Instagram.
From LeBron James to Kim Kardashian and Owen Wilson, Lionel Messi’s fame has attracted several celebrities to Inter Miami games. While Messi dazzled against Real Salt Lake, the #10 failed to get on the scoresheet. However, his 39th minute assist to Robert Taylor and his ‘chip’ over an injured opponent was enough to make headlines and give Miami a 2-0 win.

Lionel Messi and co. grab 2-0 win in season opener
Lionel Messi is no stranger to lifting league titles. The Argentine has kicked off his first full campaign with the Herons with a 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake. After joining Miami in the later end of last season, the #10 inspired a series of victories and the club’s first trophy before picking up an injury that effectively ‘ended’ Miami’s season. However, this time round, the club will look to right their wrongs from last year and go full throttle to qualify for the MLS play-offs and go on to win it.

Real Salt Lake was Messi’s first opponent of the new season, with the Argentine inspiring a 2-0 win to get things underway. He set up strike partner Robert Taylor who made no mistake to place his shot past Zac MacMath. The 36-year-old put on a show with his dribbling and chance creation, setting up 5 key passes and unleashing two shots on target.
Close friend and former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez also failed to get off the mark. However, both Messi and Suarez teed up their teammates, with Suarez’s assist going to Diego Gomez. Miami are top of the table for now, even though the rest of the teams are yet to start their season. With Messi, Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets back together, fans can certainly expect the Barcelona ‘connection’ on display throughout the season.
