Manchester City versus Arsenal’s result was not what either side would have wanted. A 0-0 draw at the Etihad places both clubs farther from the top spot as compared to before. While neither side failed to find the net on Sunday, the Gunners put an end to City’s 57-game scoring streak at the Etihad! Shortly after the game, fans flooded the comments, praising Arsenal’s backline, with much of it going to William Saliba.

The Frenchman was at the heart of the Arsenal defense as Mikel Arteta‘s men kept out the likes of Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden. The Arsenal No.2 put up a solid performance at the back, which saw him make an impressive three tackles. He also made five clearances and wasn’t dribbled past a single time throughout the game.

To add to his praise, the Frenchman also won all six of his ground duels against City players. While City enjoyed a significant portion (73%) of possession and had the larger share of shots, all credit goes to the Arsenal backline for only letting the defending champions take one shot on target in the whole 90 minutes.

The game ended 0-0, with Liverpool proving to be the true ‘winner’ from yesterday’s game.

Fans shower William Saliba with praise following impressive defensive display

Is Arsenal defender William Saliba the ‘best’ centre-back in the world? Several fans thought so as the comments poured in after Sunday’s clash. A fan commented that he is the definition of a Rolls Royce defender. Others laughed at Erling Haaland as they pointed out how he was bullied by Arsenal defenders throughout the game.

Another said that to stop City from scoring at the Etihad was a feat deserving of all three points in itself. However, certain fans found fault in Arsenal’s performance, with one stating that ‘parking the bus’ against City was as shameless as it gets. A fan pointed out how Arteta hadn’t lost a single game to Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp this season.

A fan said that while attacking wins the team games, defense is what wins titles. Arsenal fans will be hoping that their backline finally manages to bring them the all-elusive Premier League title. Many called Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães as the best CB pairing in all of Europe. With just nine games to go till the end of the season, it remains a near impossible task to predict who will lift the title come 19th of May.
