Wrexham AFC, a Football League Two club owned by Rob McElhenney & Ryan Reynolds have come up with their latest edition of ‘not being like other clubs’ on social media. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney made headlines earlier this week after a hilarious interaction with a fan on social media went viral. The club were preparing to face Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.
A fan jokingly asked on Twitter, tagging all of Ryan Reynolds, McElhenney, and the club’s official handle to provide him with a ‘sick note’ so that he could watch the game on Tuesday. McElhenney gladly complied, hilariously returning the favor. His Twitter post featured a detailed description of the fan’s poor state of health, relieving him from work on Monday.
He also mentioned that the fan may have flu as well. To add to the joke, McElhenney signed the letter with his won credentials and asked the receiver to ‘NOT’ Google his credentials. The letter read,
Just trust me, I'm a real doctor.
Even though Wrexham were hoping for a ‘giant killing’ against Blackburn, the hosts prevailed on the night, plowing their way past Wrexham in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Wrexham’s ‘unbelievable’ fine list raises eyebrows on social media
Even though the club appears to be one of the most fun and jolly teams in English football, a recent revelation regarding the team’s list of fines clear that Wrexham are just as ‘strict’ as any other club, maybe even more. The club achieved the Fair Play Award last season for their impeccable disciplinary record on the pitch. However, this season, the club is looking to achieve the same off the pitch as well.
Club striker Paul Mullin‘s autobiography featured a list of fines in place at the club. In it, the club has imposed penalties ranging from £10 to £200. The restrictions vary from basic rules like being late for training and not joining a team night out, to giving away a match jersey! The club has imposed a £50 fine for giving away match-worn jerseys.
Mullin also explained that the club physician can also give a player a fine. These include reasons like not wearing one’s GPS or being late for sessions. He also said that there’s a roulette system in place, which may add or take away from one’s fine. A player may have to buy shower gel for teammates, do a silent disco, or even create a boy band for a day with their teammates.
