Bayer Leverkusen just sent a very strong message across Europe. Beating Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga is no easy task, that too by a margin of three goals. Xabi Alonso did just that, and the Leverkusen crowd was on cloud nine after the win. The home crowd echoed praise for their players and manager, as the end to a thrilling match-up eclipsed that of a glorious post-credits scene.

Netizens ‘fell in love’ with Xabi Alonso after his kind-hearted gesture during the post-match celebrations. The crowd were honoring the home side after a hard-earned victory against Bayern Munich. The players called for their manager who refused to take the credit alone. He chose to bring with him the entire Bayer Leverkusen staff along with him.

Fans screamed praise for the players and staff as a video captured from the pitch shows Alonso turning back to urge his staff to follow him. His rumored links to Real Madrid and Liverpool look all the more convincing now, as Leverkusen displayed just why they are the team to look out for this season.

Fans are already convinced that if Liverpool manage to bring him in next season, he will be the most fitting replacement for Jurgen Klopp. His meteoric rise and the club’s journey to the very top comes as no surprise, as fans recall Leverkusen star Alex Grimaldo’s bold claim made months ago.

“An outstanding performance”- Xabi Alonso reflects on crucial win against Bayern

The post-match interview after Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-0 win against Bayern gave insight into the mind of the ‘genius’ that is Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard opened up about his side’s persons performance against the defending champions, highlighting what gave his team the upper edge over an otherwise dominant Bayern.

He started off by shifting the praise to his players and their ability to be dominant without the ball rather then while in possession. When asked about Bayern’s altered formation for the same, he confidently replied,

We were ready. We found the right moment on when to press, when not to, who could have the ball, who could not. Defensively it was an outstanding performance.

Bayern only managed to produce a solitary shot on target in 90 minutes of football, giving a clear idea as to how good the Die Werkself are in shielding their goal. Bayern are now five points behind Leverkusen, making fans wonder whether Bayern’s stronghold on the Bundesliga is coming to an end.
