Xabi Alonso is the manager that everyone wants. The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich man has European clubs in awe, as top clubs line up for his signature. While several rumors state that the Spaniard is set to sign for Liverpool, others argue that Real Madrid is his dream destination. While Bayer Leverkusen are cruising the Bundesliga with an eight-point lead, fans are debating his next destination.
Recent reports suggest that the Leverkusen manager’s dream destination is not Liverpool! While many believe that Alonso would be the perfect fit to replace Jurgen Klopp, popular media outlets claim that Alonso only has one club in mind – Real Madrid. It is no surprise that Alonso would be interested in coaching a club as prestigious as Real. However, in order to do so, the Spaniard may have to sacrifice an immediate move to a top club.
That being said, a move to another club isn’t completely off the table. The manager may demand a release clause enabling him to join Real Madrid in the future, if he is to take the job at Bayern or Liverpool.
This, however, remains up to the clubs and there has been no official communication regarding the same. Current Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti recently signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him at the Bernabeu till 2026.
Xabi Alonso assures there is no ‘distraction’ amidst Bayern Munich rumors
Bayer Leverkusen have thoroughly claimed the top spot in the Bundesliga. With a resounding win against Bayern earlier, Xabi Alonso’s men are cruising the competition. They now sit on an eight-point lead over the defending champions and a slip-up of such huge proportions remains unlikely. However, rumors surrounding Alonso’s move to Bayern next season have given fans a significant scare.
Many fans are worried whether Alonso may take his foot off the gas or get ‘distracted’ following Bayern’s approach. However, the boss put an end to the assumptions, after which Leverkusen fans have breathed a sigh of relief. Alonso said:
It's not a problem. It's a super opponent we have, but there is no distraction. For the future, I have nothing new to say. Right now, I'm the coach here and that's for sure.Xabi Alonso told the reporters
Bayern have a ‘bright’ history of signing players from rival teams and for having a ‘monopoly’ over the league. Time and again the Bavarians have snatched players from clubs that have the potential to challenge them to the league title. From Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze to Dayot Upamecano, the list goes on. As it stands, Bayern have 53 points from 23 games and with Thomas Tuchel leaving at the end of the season, fans may finally be witness to a new Bundesliga champion being crowned.
