Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has been the talk in Europe following a brilliant season in the Bundesliga. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid man is also the frontrunner to take the reins at Anfield in the light of Jurgen Klopp‘s proposed departure at the end of the season. However, that being said, the manager has been hit with an order commanding him to ‘demolish’ his magnificent villa.
Xabi Alonso joined Leverkusen as manager back in 2022 October, following a stint at Real Sociedad with the second team. The building, whose permit was granted initially and was completed in 2022, is located in San Sebastian in the Basque Country. The stunning villa, as complained by environmentalists, does not comply with the environmental guidelines.
Subsequently, a court ruling has ordered the Leverkusen manager to demolish the construction, pointing to reasons of an ‘obligation to retain the rural typology’. The court has also ruled the construction of a roof on his building to be illegal as well.
Environmental groups like Haritzalde and other cultural and local groups are behind the complaint. Even though the court has ruled against Alonso, the manager has a provision to appeal the court decision.
Is Xabi Alonso to Liverpool an inevitable tandem?
Jurgen Klopp has announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the Premier League season. The club marked an era with the German manager, whom they brought in from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. They find themselves in need of a ‘worthy’ successor, and many, including Fabrizio Romano, believe that Xabi Alonso may be the man for the job.
Even though rumors suggest that Alonso succeeding Klopp sounds like a done deal, nothing has been finalized. Leverkusen have time and again maintained the position that the club will not stand in his way if a top club from Europe comes his way. According to Fabrizio Romano,
It is too early to say that Xabi Alonso will be Liverpool manager, but he is surely a candidate.
It is understood that Liverpool are considering Alonso, as well as the possibility of bringing in Julian Nagelsmann or Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi. Bayer Leverkusen have been in spectacular form this season. They find themselves going neck to neck with the likes of Bayern Munich, while also being at the top of the league, maintaining a two-point lead.
