Barcelona manager Xavi, who recently announced his decision to depart the club at the end of the season, was confronted by a fan who emotionally requested him not to leave the club. The manager emphasized that the club had to keep progressing, despite his exit.
Xavi’s decision to leave the Catalan giants this summer has generated shockwaves among fans all around the world. A string of disappointing results across the last two months, including a 4–1 and a 4–2 loss to Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao respectively, led to increased pressure and scrutiny on Xavi. Consequently, the Spaniard decided to leave the club this summer, with Barcelona currently in the 4th position in La Liga.
While leaving the club’s training center, Xavi was encountered by a fan who wanted his autograph on a Barca T-shirt. The fan engaged in a conversation with the manager, persuading him to not depart the club because he is ‘part’ of the club. Further, the emotional fan expressed that he would miss Xavi, to which the manager responded that he would miss the club and its supporters just as much.
Because I am part of the club, I have to think about the club now.
With a heavy heart, the fan responded,
I swear I will miss you, I love you so much.
Despite his managerial struggles, Xavi is a highly revered figure at the club. Fans are expressing strong support, optimistic that he might reconsider his decision to depart.
Xavi’s managerial stats at FC Barcelona
Spanish icon Xavi returned to his former club Barcelona as the new manager in 2021, replacing Dutch manager Ronald Koeman. In just his second season in charge, he led the team to the La Liga title, securing the club’s 27th league title. Let us take a look at the Spaniard’s managerial stats with the Blaugrana.
A former Barcelona academy graduate, Xavi enjoyed an illustrious playing career with over 700 appearances, securing 32 trophies. Since he arrived at Barcelona in 2021 as a manager, he has overseen 122 matches, winning 75, losing 26, and drawing 21, maintaining a 61 percent win rate.
This is slightly lower than his 65 percent win rate at his previous club, Al-Sadd. Additionally, the Spaniard managed to win two El-Clasico matches against arch-rivals Real Madrid, in his two-and-a-half-year stint at the club, while losing two.
