Coach Xavi Hernandez has reportedly made up his mind on selling a few players to make room in the wage bill for Lionel Messi to return. FC Barcelona are beginning to take decisions over their squad planning for next season as they plan to bring back Messi this summer.
According to reports, Andreas Christensen will remain at the club. There had been some suggestion that Barcelona may attempt to cash in on his excellent season to date. But it seems like Xavi wants to retain him. Xavi believes that Christensen has been a big part of their defensive improvement.
However the same cannot be said of Franck Kessie. Xavi has reportedly given the green light to sell the midfielder this summer. Kessie is well-liked in Barcelona. And he has made some crucial contributions to their season, especially against Real Madrid. But Xavi is comfortable with his sale. Kessie’s performances have been mixed. But he has not stood out this season overall. According to the Catalan daily, the fact Pedri and Frenkie de Jong’s injuries did not make him an automatic starter has counted against him.
Barcelona are desperately looking for a way to shorten their wage bill to get Messi back in the team. Reports suggest Barcelona are all set for the Argentine’s return. But the only barrier seems to be La Liga and its rules.
La Liga president Javier Tebas recently talked about the situation in a recent interview. He said, “As of today they can’t register Messi, but hopefully they will manage it. There is still a lot of time left. We are awaiting a viability plan, they can sell players. Right now, it is difficult. Hopefully, as a league, Barça will make the necessary moves for Messi to come, but we will not change any rules so that they can sign Messi. I would like Messi to play in this competition.”

Barcelona extended contract of the promising La Masia youngster: Reports
FC Barcelona have successfully secured the future of La Masia prodigy Aleix Garrido. He signed to a new long-term deal that will reportedly keep him at the club until June 2025.
The 19-year-old midfielder, Garrido, currently captains the Barcelona Atletic team. He is reportedly considered a prized possession in the club’s midfield. And he has earned regular call-ups to the first team under coach Xavi Hernandez.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Garrido’s new contract includes a € 400 million release clause. This demonstrates FC Barcelona’s intent to keep him at the club and ward off any interest from other clubs.
Some players at the club are facing contract renegotiations or are no longer renewing. In these situations, Garrido’s new deal brings positivity to Barcelona’s future plans. Xavi has reportedly shown that he trusts Garrido’s potential. He has the ability to achieve great things with the club in the near future.
