“You can’t respect that rule, then don’t come” – Saudi Arabia minister defends Qatar’s decision to ban alcohol at 2022 FIFA World Cup
Speaking in Doha following Saudi Arabia’s “unbelievable” shock win over Argentina, the prince defended the late decision by World Cup organizers to ban alcohol at stadiums. He also said Qatar had done an “amazing” job in organizing the event.
According to the sports minister of Saudi Arabia, it would be “Islamophobic” for sporting organizations to demand that alcohol be sold at World Cup competitions. The entirely dry Gulf nation is considering a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup with Greece and Egypt. The World Cup is for everyone, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal remarked in an interview with Sky News.
“If you are against that, and you don’t feel like you’re going to enjoy your time coming, and you can’t respect that rule, then don’t come. It’s as simple as that, I think we will always be criticised but we have to look at what’s best for our country and our people, and what is actually developing our youth towards the future.” he said.

Saudi Arabia’s minister also wants Cristiano Ronaldo to play in the country after Manchester United’s contract termination
In addition, Prince Abdulaziz stated that the Saudi Arabian Football Federation would want to see Cristiano Ronaldo play in the Saudi league. In an interview with Piers Morgan, the 37-year-old acknowledged that he received an offer from an undisclosed Saudi club. “Anything is possible, I would love to see Ronaldo play in the Saudi league,” Prince Abdulaziz said.
“It would benefit the league, the sports eco-system in Saudi and it will inspire the youth for the future. He’s a role model to a lot of kids and has a big fan base.” After leaving Manchester United, Ronaldo is currently a free agent and will begin looking for a new club after the World Cup is over.
