“He scored but the team suffered”- Manchester United made a mistake signing Cristiano Ronaldo, claims former West Ham United player
Cristiano Ronaldo
With Cristiano Ronaldo running out of options, it is possible that the Portuguese maestro ends up staying at Manchester United this summer and see through his contract while his agent Jorge Mendes still looks for new clubs.
Ronaldo enjoyed a steller reunion with Manchester United at an individual level. The 37-year-old scored 24 goals in 29 games for United. However, former Premier League striker, Carlton Cole believes that goals are not enough in today’s game.
Carlton Cole smashes Cristiano Ronaldo as he questions his place in United
Speaking to TalkSport, Carlton Cole was heard saying, “When he went to Juventus, he scored but the team suffered. The game’s moved on from his Real Madrid days. You don’t need a 30-goal-a-season striker anymore.”
Cole also spoke about how clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea performed better without strikers and now they’ve got strikers that are good for them. Cole said that forwards today need to be more dynamic and help in the build-up, something Cristiano isn’t the best at.
He also concluded by saying that Erik ten Hag might have a huge problem at his hands in the name of Cristiano Ronaldo. The player who stays will have to perform a certain way, if he doesn’t then Erik ten Hag will have to find a way to integrate Ronaldo into his team.
As of now, Man Utd have put all their faith in Cristiano Ronaldo as their striker and hopes that the player doesn’t leave this summer. If he does, the Red Devils will have another headache looking for a new number 9 this summer.
