“You feel nothing”- Former Barcelona star opens up about his struggle with depression
Former Barcelona star Andres Iniesta
Andres Iniesta, a former Barcelona football player, recently gave an interview in which he discussed his life, his time in Barcelona, as well as his current situation. His statements made it very evident that he is working hard to fit into the old life and that he is having a difficult time right now.
Former Barca star Andres Iniesta said about his struggles, “When I was struggling with depression, my most enjoyable part of the day was when I took my pill and went to sleep at night. You lose joy from life, from everything. I hugged my wife, but it felt like hugging a pillow. You feel nothing.”
When asked if he would consider returning to the field as a player, he ruled it out and suggested instead that he might consider retiring as a director or coach in the future. He added, “I want to return to Barcelona as a coach or sporting director, but first I have to learn in different areas, and then we will see,”
The player has undoubtedly been affected greatly and has had a difficult time as a result of the emotional and physical problems he was experiencing. He reacted when asked if he was denied the Golden Orb in his peak. He said, “I don’t feel that, it’s not that I don’t like it but it’s not something I miss. I don’t focus too much on individual awards. I won Euro 2012 Player of the Year but individual awards are not something I think about”
