“You have to respect standards”- Erik ten Hag reveals verdict on Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Chelsea clash
Cristiano Ronaldo and Erik ten Hag
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has spoken out regarding Cristiano Ronaldo after his unacceptable behavior. Erik ten Hag said Cristiano Ronaldo had to face “consequences” after refusing to come on for Manchester United in their 2-0 win over Tottenham.
Ronaldo warmed up and was scheduled to come on in the 87th minute, but Anthony Elanga and Christian Eriksen were substituted instead. Ronaldo left the field in the 90th minute and has been left out of the squad to face Chelsea on Saturday.
Ten Hag chastised Ronaldo for leaving Old Trafford before full-time in July after playing the first half of a friendly draw with Rayo Vallecano, emphasizing that his second transgression would be punished. Ronaldo arrived at United’s Carrington training complex at 8.30 a.m. on Friday and worked out separately with fitness coaches.
“It will have a reflection for him, but also for everyone”. Ten hag stated.
He also added: “First time with Rayo wasn’t acceptable, but he wasn’t only one. The second time has consequences. Football is a team sport and you have to respect standards”.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s response to being dropped out of Manchester United’s squad against Chelsea
Manchester United’s midweek Premier League victory at home against Tottenham ended on a sour note when star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was caught leaving the pitch before the full-time whistle, despite being an unused substitute throughout the game.
The club announced in an official statement on Thursday that the Portuguese footballer will not be in the squad for Saturday’s Premier League match against Chelsea.

Ronaldo posted on his Instagram account soon after being released from the squad: ”As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches. That hasn’t changed. I haven’t changed. I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process. “
“I started very young, the older and most experienced players’ examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented. Unfortunately that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us”
