Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has confirmed his allegiance to French Club, Olympique de Marseille. However, this agreement will only move forward if the pursuit of Saudi Arabia’s takeover of the club is successfully completed.
The football world has closely monitored Zidane’s return to the game as he brings his charisma and tactical masterclass back. However, current Marseille owner Frank McCourt has denied the rumors of the club being on sale. Nevertheless, most parties budge when Saudi Arabia knocks on their oil money.
Saudi Arabia’s interest in football has risen since their successful pursuit and development of Newcastle United in England. Zidane’s agreement consists of particular agreements, such as being gifted with a massive transfer budget of €300 million as he takes on the role of General Manager and Head of Scouting for the club in his home country.
Lastly, the final decision remains in the hands of the current owner, McCourt. Saudi’s persuasion to sell the club for Zidane to bring Marseille to the top will face a meticulous proposal. Until the takeover is finalized, Genaro Gattuso, the AC Milan legend, continues his approach to improve the club’s performances as he has recently replaced Marcelino.
Zinedine Zidane’s unreal managerial stats
Zinedine Zidane‘s tenure as the manager of Real Madrid was marked by remarkable success, including three Champions League titles and multiple domestic trophies. However, the 2020/21 season is an exception in his otherwise illustrious managerial career. It was the only trophyless season for Zidane as the head of Real Madrid, as the team narrowly missed out on defending their La Liga title and faced eliminations in the Champions League and Copa Del Rey.
Despite these challenges, Zidane’s ability to guide the team to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and remain in contention for the league title until the final matchday drew significant appreciation. However, it remains the only season in his managerial career where he didn’t secure silverware. Given the circumstances, Zidane’s efforts in the 2020/21 season were commendable.
Zidane managed an aging squad, faced 65 injuries, and lacked summer signings. Despite a slow start and tactical experiments, he nearly secured a third league title. The season had setbacks, like a Copa Del Rey loss to Alcoyano and a tactical failure against Chelsea. Nevertheless, it highlighted Zidane’s adaptability and resilience in challenging conditions.
