On Tuesday, Aurélien Tchouaméni was formally introduced as a Real Madrid player at Valdebebas, and he spoke in commanding Spanish to begin his career with Los Blancos. “Hello everyone,” the Frenchman said in the local tongue, “I’m really glad to be here to begin my adventure with Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world.” I’ll put forth the effort to help our club win many more championships. Thank you, President Obama, as well as my agent and family. “Hello, Madrid!”

Later, at an introductory news conference, Tchouaméni fielded questions from the media, speaking Spanish occasionally but largely in his native French. He spoke about a variety of topics, which are all included here.

The very first line of questioning focused on why he chose Real Madrid over PSG. “I did speak to other teams,” the 22-year-old said, “but I was always hopeful Real Madrid would make an approach as well.” So, while I might have signed with other teams, I didn’t hesitate when Real Madrid expressed interest.

“At that time, I specifically requested that my agent make this happen. I want to leave my stamp on football, and I believe Real Madrid, the world’s most famous club, is the greatest place to do it.”

“When I was young and watched Real Madrid, I adored the players that played defensive midfield for Real Madrid, like Casemiro, who has had a fantastic career,” Tchouaméni remarked of the sportsmen who have influenced him.

“But I’m going to attempt writing my own tale. Zidane is unquestionably a legend at Real Madrid and for France. He had some tremendous matches under his belt. Then there’s the fact that I’ve been a big fan of Benzema’s career. Zidane and Karim are my inspirations as a Frenchman.”

“I also adore American culture and would watch videos of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan,” he said. In their game, they were always striving for excellence. So I know I won’t be successful if I only perform the bare minimum. As a result, I always give it my all.”

Real Madrid will be having incredible depth in the midfield with Tchouameni’s inclusion in the team.
