Alejandro Darío Gómez, better known as Papu Gomez, is an Argentine forward who plays attacking roles on the wing as well. He was born on 15 February 1988 in Buenos Aires, Argentina but has spent the majority of his career playing in Europe in various clubs in the continent.

Gomez has received national call-ups on numerous occasions having represented his country at the Under-20 level as well. His longest stint at a club was from 2014 to 2021 when he represented the Italian club Atalanta. He then moved to Sevilla in 2021 and has not changed his club since then.

Gomez started his career in the youth team of the Argentine club Arsenal de Sarandí. He made his youth team debut in 2003 and received his first-team call-up in 2005. He was however left on the bench for a year before making his senior team debut in 2006 with his side finishing in the 5th place.

He moved to San Lorenzo in 2009 and in his 48 appearances scored 8 goals. It was enough to grab the attention of the Italian side Catania who brought him to Serie A. He earned 106 caps for Catania netting 16 goals before moving to Metallist Kharkiv for a year from 2013 to 2014.

He left Ukraine to return to Italy after Atlanta brought him. At Atalanta, he scored 50 goals in 209 appearances while setting the Serie A record in the 2019-20 season for most assists in a season, providing 16 assists during the season. It helped him make the Serie A team of the season as well.

Sevilla did not originally report the details of their deal with Gomez but it was later reported by Marca that the player had been brought in for $5.3 million with $2.1 million in performance-based add-ons. Gomez’s reported salary is estimated at around €2.4 million.
