Ronald Koeman to leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season
With the pre-transfer season period generating a lot of hype, some surprising transfer moves could be in the offing when the season starts. One such move is that of Barcelona FC manager Ronald Koeman who might be on his way out next season. The Dutch brought his tactical expertise and used his intelligent vision to pick the right combination and team formations that showed positive results in the first half of the season. The 58-year-old manager has won 8 trophies in Dutch League in his managerial career.
The Catalans’ 2-1 loss to Celta Vigo on 16th May, their 3-3 draw against Levante and their ouster from the Champions League in the round of 16 encounter this season might have hurt his chances of being retained. Barcelona FC managed to earn only 5 points in the last 4 La Liga games so according to sources FC Barcelona management and president Joan Laporta wasn’t happy with his performances especially in the last few games of the La Liga as well.
Joan Laporta has held Koeman in high regards so it would be a difficult decision to remove him. There have been contrasting views and opinions from Barcelona FC fans worldwide on this decision. Recent reports have stated that the management has started a search for Koeman’s replacement. At the moment 4 names have been doing the rounds. According to sources, former Barcelona FC midfielder and Qatari club Al Saad manager Xavi Hernandez’s name is at the top of the list.
Will Xavi take over as FC Barcelona’s coach?
Xavi had recently renewed his contract with Al Saad that will expire in 2023. But Barcelona FC is keen to get him on board. Xavi wanted to discuss Lionel Messi’s future at the club as well as the selection process with the management. Erik Ten Hag of Ajax FC is another option while Barcelona B team coach Garcia Pimienta could also be considered. One of the top contender’s who is in the limelight at the moment is Hans Dieter Flick. The 56-year-old Bayern Munich FC manager who is set to leave the club next season is also a preferred choice at the moment but there is no surety as the German is expected to take over the post of the German national team coach in place of the outgoing Joachim Low ahead of the Euro 2020 Championships.
It’s still early to predict the successor of Ronald Koeman but it will be a difficult task for the FC Barcelona management as well as the club bosses to replace a manager who left a lasting impression with his strategic and tactical traits along with his generous nature while dealing with legendary players, newcomers as well as the club’s higher authorities.
