Samuel Umtiti’s renewal is a masterstroke by FC Barcelona and Mateu Alemany – Here’s how
FC Barcelona have had some difficult times in the last few seasons both on and off the pitch. However there is some good news for the Catalan club as they can now register the new signing Ferran Torres. Ferran who signed from Manchester City two weeks ago for a reported fee of €55 million.

But the defender has now extended his contract with Barcelona until 2026, with the club paying his remaining one and a half year salary until 2026.
Phillipe Coutinho will also spend the rest of the season on loan at Aston Villa, with former teammate Stevan Gerrard who is now the manager at the club looks to reinforce his squad. Barcelona announced a debt of over €1 billion while the losses incurred amounting to €400 million, as a result had a reduced capital of only €97 million for this campaign.
Here is what the official statement said, “The French defender is reducing a part of the salary that he was due to receive in the year and a half remaining on his contract.”
“FC Barcelona wishes to publicly express its gratitude to Samuel Umtiti for his willingness and the affection that he has demonstrated towards the club. Through this contract extension, FC Barcelona will be able to increase its ‘financial fair play’ quota and thus register Ferran Torres.”
