Serge Aurier fancies move to PSG after his contract expires at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier has made it clear that he prefers a move to his former club Paris Saint-Germain after contract ends at Tottenham. The 28-year old’s current contract at Tottenham ends next year in 2022 June.

Tottenham signed Aurier from Paris in 2017 and he has established himself as the first choice right back at the club since his arrival. The Ivory Coast international has made 110 appearances for Spurs and has scored 8 goals at the club.

In an interview with French media outlet L’Equipe, Aurier said a cycle will come to an end next season when his contract expires at the club. He reached the Champions League final with Tottenham in 2019 where they ultimately lost to Liverpool.

Aurier said, “Everyone is aware that if I wanted to extend my deal at Tottenham, I would’ve done so already. I’m not going to do it in six months. I’ve reached the end of a cycle and it’s time to look elsewhere. The two parties, Tottenham’s board and my agents, have agreed upon the conditions. We’ll see after that.

Serge Aurier however, kept his options open after claiming that a return to his boyhood club would be his preferred move at the end of next season.

“I’ve never hidden by desire to return to PSG one day. It’s the club of my heart, the one that I support and I feel free to speak about it. But I don’t want people to think that I’m stuck on them and I’m not closing the door on anyone. But if the club were to make an offer this summer, it’s sure that PSG would be my first choice.”

This means that Tottenham will have to look for a first choice right back option ahead of 2022 to fill his shoes. Although they bought Matt Doherty at the start of this season, the player did not have a great first year at the club. His time may not be far off though with Serge Aurier confirming his intentions of moving on in his career.
