Sergio Aguero to Barcelona is "confirmed and a done deal" says Fabrizio Romano

Barcelona were frontrunners to sign Sergio Aguero on a free transfer this summer and had reportedly tabled a lucrative contract offer for the departing Manchester City talisman.

The Argentine legend will be leaving Manchester City at the expiry of his contract this summer after a stunning 258-goal decade at the Etihad. A number of Premier League rivals were believed to be weighing up swoops for the 32-year-old after he announced his departure in March. But Barcelona quickly emerged as frontrunners for Aguero’s signature and the former Atletico Madrid striker seems poised to return to La Liga now, reliable sources can confirm.

Barcelona have pretty much wrapped up a deal for the Manchester City striker, who will reportedly arrive at the club in the summer on a two-year deal.

Aguero has agreed to a paycut that will see him earn an annual salary of less than €10 million at the Camp Nou. It’s thought he could be presented as a Barcelona player at the start of June, after the Champions League Final.

Sergio Agüero to Barcelona, here we go! Agüero has reached a verbal agreement on a contract until June 2023 for less than €10m as salary.

He’s expected to sign his contract with Barça after the Champions League final, there’s a bonus also included if Barcelona will win the Champions League in the next two years.” Fabrizio Romano tweeted lately, confirming the news.

Barcelona are also close on signing Dutchman and Lyon star Memphis Depay as a free agent, according to Romano.

“Barcelona are also getting closer to sign Memphis Depay as a free agent. He has confirmed to his new lawyers that he wants to join Barça – negotiations are progressing.” said Romano on Depay’s current situation.

Aguero is quite convinced that he will be playing with Lionel Messi next season as the Barcelona captain will stay on at the club. Messi’s future remains the subject of speculation with the 33-year-old out of contract in the summer and yet to extend his deal. There is optimism that Messi will stay on at the moment, but it seems he is waiting to hear what Joan Laporta has planned for next season.

Staying at Barcelona seemed to be Messi’s preferred option but he wanted to see that Laporta can create a competitive team that will challenge for titles. With Aguero’s deal now almost close to fruition, it might help Barcelona extend Messi’s contract and boost Laporta’s efforts of making him stay.
