“Sometimes you have to destroy a few things. So why not”- Cristiano Ronaldo in his latest interview
Manchester United are currently seventh in the Premier League and lie 22 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City after falling to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves.
With signings like Ronaldo and Varane, most pundits expected Man United to be challenging for the title at the start of the season. However, that has not been the case and the club has had a very rough season so far.
In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Cristiano Ronaldo talks about how Manchester United should aim for the league or at least be a second or third. He says he is not here to compete for fifth, sixth, or seventh positions in the Premier League, but to be amongst the top. When asked if Ronaldo said:
“Impossible – I think it’s the main point.
“I don’t accept that our mentality be less than being in the top three in the Premier League.”
“I think to build up good things, sometimes you have to destroy a few things. So why not – new year, new life and I hope that Manchester (United) can be the level that the fans want. They deserve that.”
‘We have to be together, we are in the same boat. We knew since the beginning that it will not be easy,’ the veteran Portugal attacker added.
‘It’s a new year and we have to believe that it’s possible, but, as I mentioned before, we have a long way to change.
‘But I believe that we’re going to do a good season.’
While Ronaldo is optimistic, the team will require a lot of work to get to anywhere near the top end of the Premier League table with reports saying that some squad members are unhappy with Rangnick’s methods.
“I believe that he is going to do a good job.”- Ronaldo on Ralf Rangnick
Talking about the appointment of the interim manager, Ronaldo stated that he believes that Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick needs time to implement his ideas at Old Trafford.
The 5-times Balond d’Or winner says Ralf Rangnick has done a ‘good job’ at Manchester United and believes the German needs to be given time in order for his ideas to come to fruition on the pitch.
‘He arrived five weeks ago, he changed many things, but he needs time to put his ideas to the players and on the pitch as well. It takes time,’ the five-time Ballon d’Or winner told Sky Sports.
‘But I believe that he is going to do a good job. We knew that we don’t play the best football as we should do, but we have many games to improve.
‘Since he arrived in some points we are better, but as I said before, you need time. It’s not that easy to change the mentality of players, the way they play, the system and the culture.
‘So I believe that he is going to do a good job.’
Manchester United are set to take on Aston Villa at the Villa Park on Saturday.
