Southampton FC completes the signing of Thierry Small on a three year deal

Thierry Small is Everton’s talented academy product who used to play as left-back for the Merseyside. This Tuesday Southampton FC signed a deal with Small which ties him to the club until 2024. Thierry joined Everton academy in 2016 and became the youngest player to feature in a game for the Merseyside. He made his debut for Everton in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield, which remains the only match that he played for the club.

Other than Southampton there were other clubs like Leed United and Aston Villa who were very keen to sign the young left-back. Small is a very versatile player who can also play as Centre Back if necessary. “I am very pleased we have been able to bring in another talented young player, especially when there were again a number of clubs who were interested,” Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl said, quoted by BBC.

Saints might have signed Small as a backup for Perraud, who was also signed this summer, as their first-choice left-back. “It’s an unbelievable feeling. A big moment for me and my family, especially to join such a family-orientated club. It’s an honour to be here and I can’t wait to get started. When I came to visit I thought this is the best place for me to develop as a player and reach new levels to my game,” Small said after signing with the Saints.

Southampton has played two games till now in the EPL, lost one, and drew their last match with Manchester United. Let’s see how the new signings did by Southampton help them to make a positive impact on their performance this season.
