Thomas Tuchel says blocking Callum Hudson Odoi’s deal to Dortmund on Deadline Day was an “easy one”

Thomas Tuchel opened up in an interview on how rejecting Dortmund’s offer for Callum Hudson Odoi on the dealine day was an easy decision to make. The German team was very keen to sign the 20 year old Englishman on a loan deal from Chelsea.
“We have spoken. It was a very easy decision for me to make on the last day of the transfer period,” Thomas Tuchel said in an interview.
“We cannot let a player go who is in the 18/19 man squad. He is able to play as a right wing-back, a left wing-back, in the two number 10 positions. He knows the group, we know him very well. There was no chance to say yes on the last day.”
According to Thomas Tuchel Hudson’s move to Dortmund would have been beneficiary for the young player but releasing him would not been a great choice for the club. Callum Hudson Odoi has not been getting enough play time, starting only 10 out of the 23 matches played in the premier league.
“For him personally it may have been a good opportunity but for us and our targets that we want to achieve, it was simply impossible. It was an easy one for me actually,” Tuchel said in the interview.

The young Englishmen made his debut for the English club at the age of 17, since then he has been showcasing his skillset for the Blues. But according to the German boss, Hudson Odoi is a very versatile player and if he manages to polish his techniques and skills a little bit more then he will be great player.
“Callum has to overcome the gap between training and games,” Tuchel said.
“I see a stronger Callum every day in training and he needs to overcome this gap and show this kind of determination that he shows in training.
“If he gets minutes, it’s never a gift. Nobody gets gifts because we take maybe sometimes hard decisions like for Callum not to let him go. He needs to deserve it. I know it’s not his favourite position but I think he can play this position and serve the team when it’s necessary.”
Hudson Odoi started the match for Chelsea against Aston Villa which they won 3-0. After Lukaku score two goals and Kovacic scored one. Tuchel looks forward to start Hudson Odoi this season in few of the matches to polish the youngster into a great player.
