The Premier League has been as competitive as ever, and this season has been no less. Considered one of the best leagues in the world and also one of the most physical, the English League has been closely contested amongst top teams this year.
Some of the incredible details include underdog featuring in the top of the league, while some top sides from the ‘big six‘ have been underperforming massively. Amongst the teams having a memorable season, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Brighton have been performing extremely well and have given a lot of hope to their fans to support them.
Squawka have prepared a list to calculate the most number of wins by sides outside of the ‘Big Six’ in 2023. As the year comes to an end, these clubs have maximized their potential squads and have performed extremely well with the amount of money at their disposal.
3. Newcastle United (19 matches)
Under Eddie Howe, Newcastle United have performed extremely well and have gone through a resurgence ever since the Abu Dhabi group completed their takeover of the club. With signings like Bruno Guimarães, Kieran Trippier, and Alexander Isak have revamped the team.
Newcastle have won 19 games in 2023 and currently sit in ninth place looking to climb up the table. However, they won just one out of their last five games of 2023 and will be looking to get back to top form with the new year.
2. Brighton and Hove Albion (19 matches)
Roberto De Zerbi has completely changed the way Brighton play and assess football in recent times. The Seagulls have won nineteen games in 2023 and have overperformed their expectations.
With Kaoro Mituma, Pervis Estupian, and Lewis Dunk putting in massive shifts week in, and week out for the club they have maintained good form consistently. They have won 2 of their last five matches and have recently provided a Premier League upset with a stunning 4-2 win over Spurs.
1. Aston Villa (26 matches)
Once dubbed as a ‘failure’ in the Premier League with Arsenal, Unai Emery has had one of the biggest growth spurts of any manager in the recent era. He has since won silverware in Spain and has improved the Aston Villa side without being fueled with massive funds.
Currently sitting in the second spot and shocking everyone in the league, Villa have been a calm and composed side who threaten when you least expect them to. Leon Bailey and World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez have been hugely influential and the side performing well consistently.
