The Premier League has established itself as one of the most popular and competitive football leagues in the world, thus making it challenging to sustain winning streaks. Fluctuations among top teams and greater potential for upsets have allowed the league to become one of the most unpredictable ones in the world.
In the tough Premier League, teams like Manchester City and Liverpool consistently perform well at home and away. Manchester City has won five out of the last six league titles, while Liverpool secured the 2019/20 championship. Players from these clubs show outstanding skills, helping them stay unbeaten for long periods.
Opta Analyst has prepared a list of present Premier League players with the lengthiest unbroken sequences without defeat. The selection considers players with at least one appearance this season. Here is a list of five Premier League players having the longest unbeaten streak.
5. Nathan Ake (15 matches)
Dutchman Nathan Ake has been an integral part of Manchester City’s defense since making a £41 million move to the club, from AFC Bournemouth in the summer of 2020. Under manager Pep Guardiola, Ake has featured in various defensive roles, alternating between center-back and left-back positions
The Dutch defender has maintained an undefeated streak of 13 games with Manchester City, not experiencing a loss since their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in early October at the Emirates. Across all competitions this season, he’s participated in 24 matches for the reigning EPL champions, contributing two significant goals and one assist. Ake’s adaptability, precise passing, and composure with the ball have established him as a dependable choice in City’s defense.
4. Virgil van Dijk (13 matches)
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, the second Dutch player on this elite list, is hailed as one of the Premier League’s finest center-backs in recent times. His presence has significantly contributed to Liverpool’s resurgence this season, following a disappointing 5th-place finish last season that cost them a spot in the Champions League.
Van Dijk, the only player not from Manchester City on this list, has an impressive 13-game unbeaten streak. He plays for Liverpool, and they’ve only lost one out of their first 19 matches in the 2023/24 Premier League season, falling to Tottenham on September 30. Since joining Liverpool from Southampton in 2018, Van Dijk has been crucial in their defense. At 6 foot 5, he leads the Premier League in winning aerial duels this season.
3. Jack Grealish (14 matches)
Manchester City left-winger, Jack Grealish, has displayed impressive form over recent seasons. He has become Pep Guardiola’s preferred forward in crucial matches. Although he hasn’t replicated last season’s performances during City’s historic treble win, he’s remained undefeated in his last 14 appearances for the team.
Grealish, known for his fast moves and creative skills, made news by transferring from Aston Villa to City for £100 million, setting a record for the priciest British player. Since joining City in 2021, he played 109 times and scored 14 goals. However, some question if his high cost was justified. His last loss with City was on September 30 against Wolverhampton, and he hasn’t lost a game since.
2. Kevin De Bruyne (23 matches)
Considered among the top midfielders of this era, Kevin De Bruyne arrived at Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2015. Despite an injury sidelining him for a significant portion of this season, the Belgian midfielder boasts an unbeaten streak of 23 matches in the Premier League. Based on the fact that he appeared in the first game at the start of the season against Burnley before getting injured.
The Belgian player is renowned for his creativity, tactical awareness, and intelligence on the field. Subsequently, he has amassed 358 appearances for Manchester City across nine seasons, scoring 96 goals and providing 102 assists. De Bruyne’s last defeat occurred in City’s 1-0 loss against Tottenham in February 2023, after which the team claimed both the UCL and Premier League titles that season.
1. Rodri (48 matches)
Rodri stands out significantly among players with the longest unbeaten runs in the Premier League, marking the fourth Manchester City player on this list. Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante departed Atletico Madrid to join City in 2019, evolving into one of the world’s top defensive midfielders in subsequent years.
Rodri boasts an unbeaten streak of 48 matches in the Premier League, with his last defeat against Tottenham in February 2023. This season, he’s participated in 23 EPL games, scoring and assisting four times each. His remarkable defensive and offensive prowess, including positioning, tackling, passing, and ball control, have established him as a formidable force at Manchester City. His standout year included scoring in the 2022/23 UCL final and earning accolades as the Champions League, Nations League, and Club World Cup Player of the Tournament.
