“Something that can’t happen”- Trent Alexander Arnold calls for more dominant performances from Liverpool

Liverpool pulled off a dramatic 1-0 victory against Aston Villa at Anfield this weekend to keep up in their chase to the top of the Premier League, as Mohamed Salah scored a second-half penalty to give Jurgen Klopp’s side the much needed three points.

Although they managed to win the match, the performance in the second half left a lot to be desired off from a side of the calibre of Liverpool prompting right-back Trent Alexander Arnold to urge his teammates to not repeat similar mistakes in the upcoming matches.

The Reds had to hold on to their lead as Aston Villa dominated most of the play in the final few minutes, which is unusual for any away side playing at Anfield. Arnold accepted the fact that they were the second-best side towards the end of the match but praised his side for coming out unscathed and with all three points from a tough fixture.

Speaking after the game, Arnold said, “Last 10, 15 was tough for us. We stopped playing football, we stopped playing the way we played the rest of the game and let them into it, to be honest, and they created chances and opportunities.”

The English defender continued the positive criticism of his side saying they should have seen off the match in a more secure way rather than at sixes and sevens.

“And that’s something that we need to work on, it’s something that can’t happen, to be honest. We need to see those games out a lot more comfortably,” opined Alexander Arnold on The Reds’ overall performance against Aston Villa.

Liverpool are currently second in the premier LEague table with 37 points from 16 matches, one point off league leaders Manchester City.
