The 21/22 UEFA Champions League season starts on 14th September, and there is some positive news for the away team fans as UEFA have given the green light and eased the restrictions for them to travel and attend games in different countries.

The Covid-19 pandemic kept the fans away from the stadium for almost one and a half year.

Bayern Munich will travel to Barcelona for their first group game, RB Leipzig travel to Manchester City for their first game the Etihad Stadium.

Due to the ban and the Covid-19 restrictions a number of UEFA Champions League matches last season had to be played at neutral venues.

UEFA has now lifted the ban for the away fans to travel in accordance with the health rules and regulations of the respective countries of the home teams.

“5% of the total allowed stadium capacity will be reserved to fans of the away team, subject to any decision in this respect falling under the responsibility of the relevant competent authorities.” said UEFA.

UEFA cited a vaccine program across Europe to relax the traveling rules.

UEFA has a vaccine program across Europe to help them lift the travel ban for away fans and relax the rules.

These restrictions being eased by UEFA will also help the players and officials to enter and move freely in the stadiums without been further testing.

UEFA have also informed the clubs to have all the traveling information about the rules and regulations at the national borders before going for an away game.

UEFA added “This includes checking if the type of vaccination of all individuals of a team delegation is accepted by authorities of the country which they are going to visit for the match.”

For instance Russian vaccine Sputnik is not valid in the United Kingdom and Zenit St Petersburg will be playing Chelsea on Wednesday 15th September.
