Controversy! UEFA to investigate potential wrongdoing in UCL draws as Manchester United placed in wrong pot

The UEFA Champions League draw for the Round of 16 has just barely finished, and has given us plenty of interesting fixtures to look forward to cometh the month of February when the ties would be played out. Lionel Messi’s PSG will face off against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United yet again, while Atletico Madrid have drawn favourites Bayern Munich.

However, among the euphoria surrounding these fixtures, a serious allegation has been made against UEFA, which claims that the UCL draws were rigged, after a clear technical error emerged during the live draws in Nyom, Switzerland.

UCL draws will be redone once again due to a technical glitch in the previous draw

The draw started off well, as Real Madrid were paired against Portuguese opponents Benfica to give us the first knockout fixture of the Champions League this year, but trouble transpired immediately after that as Manchester United were placed in the same pot while drawing opponents for Spanish club Villarreal.

United had already faced off Villarreal in the group stages, and both these clubs qualified from the same group which meant they were not be drawn in opposite pots for the knockout stages. Yet, a mistake on the part of the organisers saw United being paired opposite to the Spanish club, to everyone’s surprise.

The process was repeated once again, this time without Manchester United’s ball being placed in the bowl and Villarreal were eventually drawn against the other Manchester club, Manchester City. Instead, Manchester United were later drawn against French club Paris Saint Germain, later in the draw.

UEFA have assured all parties that they would investigate the blunder made by the people in charge and the possibility of the UCL draws being done once again cannot be ruled out at this point in time.
