Spain are currently playing Switzerland in the first match of the quarter finals in EURO 2020. Both teams have made their way into the quarter finals after impressive performances in their last Round of 16 match.

Spain scored early inside the first 10 minutes from a lucky deflection to take the lead against the Swiss. The goal came from a corner, which was dealt clear by the Swiss goal as far as the penalty box.

Jordi Alba was positioned just outside the box and struck the ball first time, a shot which was going wide of the far post. However, in a huge slice of luck the ball deflected off Swiss midfielder Zakaria’s foot into the back off the net.

However, after a flaccid first half where no further goals were scored the Swiss have come roaring back in the second half of the match to level the scorers at St Petersburg.

Xherdan Shaqiri emerged the hero once again for the Swiss national side, as he finished off a perfect team move to score the equalising goal.

The goal came in the 68th minute of the match and resulted from a huge defensive confusion from the Spanish centre-backs. The ball ricochets of the two defenders to fall for Freuler, who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net past the diving Unai Simon in goal for Spain.

After taking the lead, they looked more and more close to a second goal to take the lead. However all of their hopes have gone as Freuler, the midfielder who assisted the Swiss goal has been sent off for a reckless challenge on striker Gerard Moreno.
