The game had seen a rather poor footballing display so far up until the goal came for United. Both teams have been guilty of losing possession too many times and neither have been able to mark their authority on the pitch.

Bruno Fernandes turned the provider yet again for Manchester United scoring his 18th Premier League goal of the season. Liverpool defenders fell asleep as Aaron Wan Bissaka passed it onto Bruno inside the penalty box.

The Portuguese playmaker, wrapped his foot and curled a shot with the outside of his right-boot into the bottom corner. The ball unfortunately deflected off the leg of Nathaniel Phillips into the far top corner as Alisson stood by.

Liverpool have themselves had a penalty decision reversed by VAR in the 30th minute. The on-field referee had initially pointed to the spot for a foul by Eric Bailly on Philips in the United penalty box. However, after seeking consultation from his VAR team he decided against it and reversed a decision.

Liverpool however have come roaring back through Diogo Jota in the 34th minute with an important equalizer. The striker scored from a corner which he had forced out of Dean Henderson with a thunderous first time volley.

Nathaniel Philips somewhat redeemed himself after the unfortunate deflection which gave United their first goal. The defender pounced on a loose ball and dribbled his way past two Manchester defenders and shot himself. The rebound was picked on by Diogo Jota and the striker back-heeled it into the back of the net.

Liverpool scored late in the final minutes of the half through a free-kick. Trent- Alexander Arnold’s free kick from the right flank was met by a delightful header from Roberto Firmino at the back post. Paul Pogba failed to get the better of the striker and his header has given Liverpool a 2-1 lead at half-time.
