He came, he saw and he conquered. That was pretty much the story of Eden Hazard in tonight’s Copa Del Rey Round of 16 clash between Real Madrid and Elche. The faceoff that ended in a 0-0 draw at 90 minutes, proceeded into the extra time as it was a single legged knockout match; And to be honest, the 30 minutes of Extra time gave the spectators much more thrill than the first 90 as it featured as many as 3 goals and a red card turning the match into an action-packed blockbuster.

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti probably took Elche lightly as he rested Karim Benzema for the match. The Frenchman was not even in the squad and that was probably a mistake on the Italian manager’s part. Luckily he will not be pressed hard for his negligence as the Los Blancos ended up winning the match.

As expected, Real Madrid dominated the entirety of the match and Elche’s plan was pretty much just to sit back in lower blocks trying to defend Real’s attacks. And that worked out well for the first 90 minutes. It was then that Carlo Ancelotti decided to bring in Eden Hazard – a player he has not been in much great terms with.

Things changed completely when Real Madrid’s Marcelo Vieira received a red card in the extra time and on that very set piece, Elche took the lead through Gonzalo Verdu.

Eden Hazard dribbled past the goalkeeper to score the goal.

In the second half of extra time, Real Madrid’s urgency from the very first moment worked out well for them and Isco gave them the lead in the 108th minute.

To everyone’s surprise, Eden Hazard scored the winner for Real Madrid in the 115th minute following a through ball by David Alaba – and boy what a goal it was ! In simpler terms, it was worth all the wait and it definitely is a special goal for Eden Hazard as well as for the Real Madrid fans as it comes at a time when the Belgian’s transfer rumours are at their peak.
