“What a Match!”: Twitter reacts as Fede Valverde’s Extra time goal wins the El Clasico for Real Madrid

Real Madrid have won the 2022 Supercopa de España Semi-finals against arch rivals FC Barcelona in the Extra time after a scintillating 3-2 thriller. With this, the Los Blancos have defeated the Blaugrana in the last 5 El Clasicos which in itself is a rare feat in the history of their rivalry. Real Madrid will face the winner of the other semi final match between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
WATCH: Fede Valverde’s Winning Goal

Real Madrid took the lead twice during the 90 minutes of the game only to be equalised by Barca. It was only the Extra time that super sub Fede Valverde scored their much required winning goal. After scoring, the Uruguayan celebrated by taking his shirt off, much like former Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo had done after scoring a winner the last time they met in the competition.
The five goal scorers were Vinicius Junior, Luuk De Jong, Karim Benzema, Ansu Fati and Fede Velverde. The scoreline could have been a lot different though if both the sides had converted the many chances that they got. Benzema for instance hit the post once.
However, Real Madrid surprisingly did not dominate the game. FC Barcelona’s relatively young side was exceptional tonight and they even had more possession and shots during the game. They were unable to contain Madrid’s lethal counter attacks though and that led to all of their three goals. The good thing is that Xavi’s Barca has finally started to show positive signs.
Real Madrid have won the Spanish super cup 11 times and are just two away from tying Barca at the top of the list. Barca has won 13 Spanish super cups.
Football fans across the globe were charged up after tonight’s thrilling encounter and they took to twitter in masses to react to the match. The La Liga fans have finally gotten a chance to pick at the Premier League fans who were referring to the El Clasico as having ‘fallen off’.
This is how twitter reacted to Real Madrid’s victory over FC Barcelona.
