Sir Jim Ratcliffe joins the race to buy Manchester United amid Qatari bid

Sir Ratcliffe is in the bidding race to takeover Manchester United.

One of Britain’s wealthiest men, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has also placed an official bid to take over Manchester United right after the Qatar group submitted their proposal. The bidding war for Manchester United looks heated up as both the suitors look to be serious about acquiring 100% of the sporting giants. Sir Jim, who is the owner of INEOS petrochem company, promised that he would not burden the club with debts.

The owner of INEOS hopes to portray himself as a safe haven for the club, as he has been a supporter of the Premier League giants since childhood. Raine Group, the bank in charge of the sale, set the ‘soft’ deadline on February 17 for the official bids from the interested parties. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who grew up in Greater Manchester, owns Cycling team Ineos Grenadiers, Ligue 1 side Nice, FC Lausanne-Sport, a Swiss Super League club and is no stranger to investing in sports.

A Sky Sports News report stated, “We’ve got two owners fighting it out for Manchester United. I think there will be developments and we will hear about more bidders but these are very different bids. Qatar, people have almost unlimited wealth, who don’t even need the backing of investment banks to do this deal. Then we have Sir Jim Ratcliffe who is going to emphasize the fact he’s British. That he was born in Greater Manchester, that he has been a Manchester United supporter all his life. The report claimed it was ‘important’ for an English businessman to own Manchester United.
