Who is the current FIFA president?
The current FIFA president is Gianni Infantino, who took over as FIFA President after replacing Sepp Blatter in February 2016. Infantino, a Swiss-Italian, began serving at UEFA in 2000 and previously held the position of general secretary in 2009. His appointment was the outcome of the 2015 FIFA corruption scenario, which saw him appointed to replace the ousted Blatter at the 2016 FIFA Extraordinary Congress.
Even so, in the aftermath of the FIFA controversy, Infantino was also involved, as the Panama Papers disclosed that UEFA entered into pacts with figures where they had repeatedly indicated that any such connection was turned down. Infantino, on the other hand, indicated that he is “dismayed” by the reports, claiming that he has never coped with the parties engaged privately.
When did Gianni Infantino start working with FIFA?
Gianni Infantino commenced working with UEFA in August 2000. Infantino was brought in as Director of UEFA’s Legal Affairs and Club Licensing Division in January 2004. In 2007, he became UEFA’s Deputy General Secretary, and in October 2009, he was appointed as the Secretary-General. Many changes were made during his tenure at UEFA.
Gianni Infantino is extremely knowledgeable about football. Infantino has served as the secretary general of UEFA, Europe’s soccer confederation, since 2009. He has spent the majority of the last 15 years with the organization, operating on everything from licensing to major tournaments like the Champions League and the Euro Cup.
Infantino was in control of broadening Euro 2016 to 24 teams, as well as the UEFA Nations League and the UEFA Euro 2020, which will be held in 13 European countries.
