The current FIFA president is Gianni Infantino, who took over as FIFA President after replacing Sepp Blatter in February 2016. Infantino, a Swiss-Italian, began serving at UEFA in 2000 and previously held the position of general secretary in 2009. His appointment was the outcome of the 2015 FIFA corruption scenario, which saw him appointed to replace the ousted Blatter at the 2016 FIFA Extraordinary Congress.
