Zidane to decide on his future with Real Madrid in coming days

Zidane saw his side Real Madrid come back from behind to beat Villarreal 2-1 at home, but Atletico Madrid’s victory away at Real Valladolid secured the title for Diego Simeone’s side.

There had been ongoing rumours about Zidane’s future at Madrid, with the Frenchman reportedly set to step down from his position in the summer, but he did not reveal anything about his future in the post match conference following Madrid’s win against Villareal on the final matchday in La Liga Santander.

“We have to congratulate Atletico, who deserve to be champions, because whoever is at the top deserves it,” Zidane said in his post-match press conference.

“But the most important thing is what the players have done. With time and with calmness, I will talk to the club [about my future] later.

“I have to thank our fans because they have always supported the team from the outside. I think everyone can be proud of the players, because they have given everything.

“It wasn’t easy but in the end we won [against Villarreal]. It’s a day to congratulate the whole squad. And that’s it. Not winning anything doesn’t represent the value of Real Madrid.”

Zidane’s future was the hot topic during the press conference, and he made clear that he will sit down with the club in the coming days.

“Now we have to be calm and in the next few days we’ll talk about it,” the Frenchman stated.

“In a little while we’ll see what’s going to happen. Not only with me, but with everything the club is going to do for next season.”

“My mood is gutted. If you ask me that, that’s the answer.” Zidane responded when asked about his current mood.

Speculations have already started about ex-Juventus coach Masimilliano Allegri being the frontrunner to be next Real manager, in case Zidane decides to step down.
