Other players tried to mimic Saquon Barkley’s reverse hurdle from the Jaguars game, but their failed attempts show how tough it is to nail in a live NFL setting.

Saquon Barkley‘s reverse hurdle against the Jacksonville Jaguars defense broke the internet on Sunday. The Philadelphia Eagles running back garnered a lot of praise from fans and his peers, but he may not be the first athlete to try the jaw-dropping move.

Recently, a video emerged that captured a lower-division football game between two teams. The video quality is extremely poor and choppy, so it’s impossible to deduce the names of the teams or the athletes.

The video starts with a punt return. After receiving the ball, the returner ran straight at the opposition defenders and leaped over a couple of them, attempting a reverse hurdle. However, unlike Saquon Barkley, he failed miserably as one of the defenders caught him mid-air and smashed him into the turf like the WWE wrestler Brock Lesner.

Initially, many believed that the boy in the video copied Barkley, but a few in the comment section of the X (previously known as Twitter) pointed out the clip was much older.

One user even claimed that Barkley was still playing college football when this particular video first surfaced on the internet.

The NFL drug-tested Saquon Barkley

Barkley is famous for his daunting runs with the ball ever since his Penn State days. He continued to terrorize NFL defense even in a below-average New York Giants offense, whom he left despite revealing he was a giant for life.

The 27-year-old’s transition from the Giants to the Eagles’ offense was effortless. Playing behind Jalen Hurts opened new doors to try some new things. Barkley’s reverse hurdle was the highlight of the Eagles’ win over the Jaguars in week nine. He thanked the almighty during the post-game interview.

I’ve got to give credit to God, man. I’m not going to lie… I feel like God gave me the ability to play this position and gave me some instincts. Sometimes you’ve got to let go and let God and your instincts take over.

However, the league perceived the historical moment from a different perspective and quickly sent a letter to the two-time Pro Bowler, asking him to take a drug test.

Regardless of how the league views it, Barkley’s teammates seemed pumped by his Madden video game-esque move.

I ain’t never seen nothing like it.

Eagles’ wide receiver DeVonta Smith said

Saquon became the only Philly running back after Eagles Hall of Famer LeSean McCoy to record 1,000+ scrimmage yards and eight plus touchdowns through eight games.

The Eagles are 6-2 and sit second behind the Washington Commanders with 7-2 in the NFC East. They will travel to Arlington and play the 3-5 Dallas Cowboys in week 10.
