Everton defenders at Championship level? Jamie Carragher slams Everton following massive defeat to Tottenham

Everton defenders at Championship level? Jamie Carragher slams Everton following massive defeat to Tottenham

Jamie Carragher has blasted Everton’s “Championship back four” on another sobering night as the Spurs put five goals past the crisis-hit Toffees.

Everton find themselves in a genuine relegation battle, something that seemed highly unlikely at the start of the season, Carragher claims that it is not a surprise while looking at the defenders on show.

Lampard’s Everton simply couldn’t get anywhere near Tottenham all night and were out of the game by half-time, as Spurs went into the second 45 already 3-0 up on the night. The second half piled on more misery for Everton, as Harry Kane and Sergio Reguilon added more goals to ensure the game finished 5-0. On another night, too, Tottenham might have scored more.

“When you talk about a team being too good to go down, well with this Everton team it’s because of the attacking players, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin etc.

“But this Everton back four is a Championship back four, there’s absolutely no doubt whatsoever.

“Seamus Coleman, I actually feel sorry for. He’s been a great full-back for them, but right now this is happening far too much,” Carragher said on Sky.

Jamie Carragher fears Everton are in danger of being relegated if they don’t win their next two games at home against Wolves and Newcastle. The only positive for the Toffees is that eight of their remaining 13 games are at Goodison Park.

He said: “If their next two home games don’t go well they’ve got massive problems

“With what’s going on behind the scenes, what’s going on with the stadium, teetering around financial fair play which was why they couldn’t bring in new players last summer.

“Frank said he’s looking forward to the next two games. If they don’t win them I think they’ve got a massive problem in terms of going down.”

Everton host the Wolves at Goodison Park in their next match, a very important three points if they manage to win.
