WATCH- “Superman Finish,” Joao Felix scores with an exceptional header against Manchester United in the Champions League
Atletico Madrid have made a blistering start to their UEFA Champions League first-leg knockout fixture against Manchester United at Wanda Metropolitano. The Rojiblancos have scored in the 7th minute of their courtesy of their own Portuguese striker, Joao Felix, who thundered in a headed goal.
The goal came from a brilliant cross from Atletico Madrid’s left-back Renan Lodi. The initial ball was cleared away by Victor Lindelof, but it went as far as Lodi, who surged forward and delivered a pinpoint cross for Joao Felix into the penalty box.
Joao Felix scored his first UEFA Champions League goal of the season
Joao Felix had earned himself a bit of space inside the box between United’s centre back and launched himself towards the cross in heroic fashion. He met it perfectly and the ball struck the inside left post and clattered into the net.
The early goal has added an extra zing to the steps of the Spanish club, who have held their shape meticulously whenever United were in possession. They have stuck to their task of not allowing the game to flow, by making tactical fouls all over the pitch.
The Atletico Madrid players would be disappointed at not having added another goal to their advantage after the ball struck the post for the second time in the dying moments of the first half. Sime Vrsaljko’s header went straight onto the face of Victor Lindelof and luckily for the Swede and his side, it ricocheted onto the post and went behind for a corner.
With the score still at 1-0, Machester United definitely have a way back into the tie and will need their talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo to fire in all cylinders for the remainder of the match.
