Ronaldo has gone on to become one of the all-time greats since leaving Sporting to Manchester United join for £12.24million as a teenager in 2003. The Portugese had risen up to the status of an icon and cult hero at Real Madrid after leaving the Red Devils in 2009, breaking the LaLiga giants’ all-time scoring record with a staggering tally of 450 goals and winning four Champions League title in his stint with the Spanish giants.

Ronaldo joined Juventus three years ago and with his contract due to expire in 2022, the 36-year-old’s future has been the subject of speculation with Andrea Pirlo’s side in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season.

Maria assured fans that she would meet Ronaldo soon and convince him to return to Portugal, with Sporting being the likely destination.

She told TVI24 via Calciomercato: “Tomorrow I will go to see him and talk to him. Next season he will play at Alvalade. I will convince him to come back.”

Reports suggest that PSG and Manchester United are also interested in securing Ronaldo’s services, while reuniting with former manager Zinedine Zidane at the Turin club could also be a possibility. The 36-year-old talisman has one year left on his contract at Juventus, and has been widely linked with a departure this summer, with Sporting being a possible destination.
