Aaron Ramsdale stirred quite an awakening amongst the football and Harry Potter fans as he dressed up as Rubeus Hagrid in his unveiling at Southampton. One of the favorites amongst the Harry Potter fans, Hagrid was always a character that bore the baton of good magic against evil and he was also one of the most loved personalities on the set. Former Arsenal goalkeeper, Ramsdale who signed for Southampton in the upcoming season was ready to stun the fans, and he had a very special reason to do so.

Aaron Ramsdale‘s costume was an acknowledgement to watch the Saints clinch their Championship play-off final against Leeds in May. The eminent custodian was in the stands as he watched his friend and erstwhile Bournemouth team-mate, David Brooks in action for Southampton. Ramsdale revealed that the dress-up was a part of the friendly tradition which involved Wembley.

Any time one of our friends get to Wembley we do fancy dress, it's something we've done and we've won three times from it so we're not gonna break from tradition now. I think the first year we did Teletubbies, the other year we did wrestlers - I went as old school Kane. We had a mask but I had a little leotard on. It's just something we did. [This year] It was a toss-up between Toy Story and wizards and the Toy Story outfits wouldn't have come in time so we chose wizards. We had a Dumbledore, we had a Harry, we had a Ron Weasley, we had two deatheaters. So I thought 'Why not go as Hagrid?

Ramsdale had a mixed spell at Arsenal and was looking for an exit. The move to Southampton ushered in a new chapter for the former Arsenal goalkeeper. He was bought by the Saints for £25 million. The 26-year-old custodian joined the Gunners back in 2021 and savored two complete seasons at Emirates as the first-choice goalie under Mikel Arteta. However, things took an unwanted turn for Ramsdale when David Raya arrived on loan from Brentford and his performance against Aston Villa saw why the Gunners had another explosive showstopper to adorn their ranks.

Here is how Southampton has fared of late

Southampton came on the back of a phenomenal victory against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup that saw Mateus Fernandes, Amo-Ameyaw, Cameron Archer and James Bree finding the back of the net for the Saints. However, their last week in the Premier League didn’t really see them hit the right notes as they succumbed to Nottingham Forest by the solitary goal coming in from Morgan Gibbs-White.

Sadly, enough they are yet to open their account in the latest iteration of the Premier League. They lost their tournament opener against Newcastle United despite putting up a decent fight. They will be up against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, hoping desperately for their first point in the League.
