Virat Kohli, reportedly, has been slated to open for the Indian team for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Some believe he should be opening alongside Rohit Sharma, while some say he should bat at his usual number three. Former Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh, believes Kohli should sacrifice his opening spot.
Talking on Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh believes that Virat Kohli should bat down the order. Singh would rather have Yashasvi Jaiswal opening alongside Rohit Sharma. He added that Kohli could come in to bat at number four, with Shivam Dube batting at three.
Take the horses-for-courses approach here, and there's no disrespect in that. Kohli is a great player, but can play at no.3 or 4, the team comes first. Even he will agree with this.Harbhajan Singh on Star Sports
Kohli has batted at number three throughout his T20I career, but opens for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. He has great numbers at both spots as well and is the current Orange Cap holder in IPL.
IPL sensation credits Virat Kohli for change in technique
Jake Fraser-McGurk has lit the IPL on fire. The Delhi Capitals (DC) opener, who was brought in to replace the injured Lungi Ngidi, has hit three fifties in the IPL so far. His overall strike rate is also above 200 and has hit two 15-ball fifties.
Before the IPL, he was known for being the fastest to complete a List A century. The Australian took 29 balls to score a century against Tasmania on 8th October. This broke the record of AB de Villiers, who took 31 balls. He was interviewed by Fox Cricket after the record-breaking feat and credited Virat Kohli for a major change in his technique.
You see players like Virat, whose eyes are really wide when he’s facing up. He’s watching it like a hawk, so I thought I could get something out of that and try to look for the seam on the ball, and then just reacting and backing my instincts.Jake Fraser-McGurk to Fox Sports
The 22-year-old has scored 247 runs with an average of 49.33. He also strikes at 237.5, the highest for any batter with minimum 150 runs. He scored a 15-ball-fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 20th April and proceeded to do the same a week later against Mumbai Indians.
