Ex-Manchester City full-back Micah Richards has revealed his thoughts on the latest EPL controversy. He labelled the red card given to Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly as the ‘worst decision’ ever in Premier League history. He was reacting to the Gunners full-back’s send-off during the club’s 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton.
Arsenal returned to winning ways in the EPL with a much-needed win over Wolverhampton. Substitute Riccardo Calafiori scored the lone goal of the match in the 74th minute after being brought on to the pitch at half-time. He was brought on to fill-up for youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly at the left-back position after his controversial send-off, moments before the half-time whistle.
The 18-year-old full-back has remained in the headlines for his brilliant performances for Arsenal at such a young age. However, he made a tactical foul on Wolves’ Matt Doherty. Referee Michael Oliver surprised everyone by showing him a straight red, without VAR intervention. The referee’s decision was criticized by many within the football fraternity.

Ex-Man City star and football pundit Micah Richards termed the red card as the ‘worst decision’, claiming it to be an example of poor officiating.
Guys, that’s the worst decision I’ve ever seen in Premier League football history… I don’t like using the word ‘disgrace’, but if you look at the magnitude of that decision, it was so poor.

Meanwhile, the decision left Arsenal fans and manager Mikel Arteta fuming, with the club having appealed against the decision. Moreover, Oliver has been criticized in the past for his officiating. The referee has bizarrely sent off eight Arsenal players over a stretch of 55 matches.
PGMOL calls out social media ‘abuse’ aimed at Michael Oliver after Myles Lewis-Skelly red card
The Premier League referees’ association, PGMOL, called out social media abuse aimed at Michael Oliver over his controversial decision-making. Arsenal fans abused the Englishman for showing Myles Lewis-Skelly a red card in their match against Wolverhampton.

While the officials deemed it as ‘serious foul play’, many have felt otherwise. Shockingly, many fans took to social media to abuse referee Michael Oliver and his family. PGMOL condemned and termed it ‘appalling.’ A statement confirmed that police investigations are underway over the abusive remarks.

Moreover, PGMOL also clarified its stance on Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial sending-off, claiming that the challenge was late and high. Interestingly, Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes was shown a red card for a similar tackle in the second half of the match. The refereeing in the EPL remains an issue that cannot be fixed at the moment.
