Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers shared a bond based on the principle of mutualism. The quarterback had his greatest years with the team, setting and shattering records in the NFL and the team made it all the way to the Super Bowl under his leadership. Since their split in 2021, neither the Panthers nor Newton has been the same.

Despite Newton’s attempts to return to the NFL, he did not see much success. As the Panthers cap off yet another disappointing season under rookie QB Bryce Young, one former player of the team believes the organization must go back to the man who led them to the top.

Lou Young, the former cornerback for the Carolina Panthers, revealed on The Fourth and 1 podcast how he truly felt about the team,

It ain't been a lot of glitz and glamour since that boy. Panthers I mean wake up and smell the coffee man and put my man back in the building to help. They need some help listen I know it cost a lot to get this guy. If they promise them that Cam Newton is going to be there, game one, they might have a Prime-Time game.
Lou Young said

This year, the Panthers have zero prime-time games, an organization’s worst nightmare.

Will Cam Newton be able to bring the hype back amongst football fans in Carolina?

Young’s assertion that merely bringing Cam Newton aboard will result in immediate fame and success is not entirely true. Sure, hearing the name of the former QB, Panthers fans will flock to watch the games in herds but then again, they remember the last time he played in the NFL, and he did not look like the same person that took this team to the Super Bowl in 2016.

The NFL is unlikely to budge and make an exception for the Panthers by allocating a Prime Time game to the team just because they decide to bring their greatest quarterback back. But it will have a positive impact on the fanbase as Young believes Newton is the Michael Jordan of the Panthers.

Look at Chicago right, Chicago Bulls there hasn't been an aura in Chicago since Michael Jordan let's be real.
Lou Young added

There most certainly isn’t anything aura-worthy about 2-15. Newton’s charismatic personality would benefit the organization, he would help to an extent in filling up the stadium and keep the media buzzing around the team.

However, considering that Bryce Young is the direction in which Carolina remains inclined to lean on, it does not seem to be a possibility. This year, under new Head Coach Dave Canales, the team will look to improve upon its record and begin to establish itself as a strong contender.
