An unnamed former Premier League footballer has been reportedly arrested under suspicion of raping a woman at a London hotel. The incident took place at the exclusive Corinthia Hotel in Whitehall Palace, in the Westminster neighborhood of London.
The unnamed player was arrested after an alarm was raised by a young woman. The female complainant informed the front desk of the luxury hotel that the player attacked her and subsequently sexually assaulted her in a hotel room, last week.
The victim alleged that they had gone back to the hotel after meeting at a bar in Central London in the evening, a day ago. Upon receiving the complaint, the player was taken to the Charing Cross police station in the morning.

At the police station, he was questioned about the alleged incident in the presence of a lawyer, which he denied. A DNA swab and fingerprints of the suspect were also collected at the police station.
The player has been released on bail until mid-December, as police continue with their investigation. The authorities also carried out a forensic examination of the hotel room as well as the CCTV footage, while re-examining the victim’s statements at a rape counseling suite.
Meanwhile, sources have revealed that the suspect has played for several English clubs, while also representing his country. This incident adds to the increasing number of such cases against EPL stars, with former Wolverhampton star Rafa Mir’s arrest being the most recent.
Premier League lodges complaint against FIFA over congested schedule
The Premier League, along with others, has lodged a formal complaint against FIFA over the busy football schedule. The group, also referred to as the European Leagues collective, stated that FIFA did not consult over making the new calendar in March, last year.

The group has stated that the congested schedule harms the economic interest of the national leagues as well as the overall welfare of players. It has lodged an official complaint against the apex football body to the European Court of Justice.
This comes after several players, including Manchester City star Rodri, complained of overworking players, before suffering a season-ending injury. Moreover, the group has also pointed to FIFA’s decision to expand the Club World Cup to a 32-team tournament as well as UEFA‘s decision to increase the number of teams participating in the UEFA Champions League.
