In a tragic incident, former Sheffield United defender, George Baldock passed away as he drowned in his home pool while swimming. Greek police has confirmed that there was no foul play involved and it is an accident that took away the life of the Greece international.

Baldock signed up for Panathinaikos this summer after elapsing a seven-year-long stint at the Bramall Lane. The world is still to come to terms with the sudden passing away of Baldock as the condolences kept on pouring in from all corners of the world. Whether it was the black armbands that were donned in England versus Greece Nation’s League game or the messages that deluged from all corners, the tragedy was vividly real.

Apart from that, even his current club, Panathinaikos also stated that they were shocked with the sudden demise of Baldock who was a very lively character, on and off the pitch. The accident also led to the observation of silence in the game between England and Greece at Nation’s League which was also accompanied by the black armbands that were donned by players of the Greece side.

In another shocking outcome, the 2004 Euro champions, Greece shocked England with a clinical display on October 10th in the Nation’s League game. A magical last-gasp winner from Vangelis Pavlidis saw the Greeks leave England deflated at the Wembley Stadium.

Jude Bellingham did provide them the equalizer after Pavlidis struck in the 49th minute. Bellingham’s 89th minute strike made everyone believe that maybe and just maybe the Three Lions will walk home with a point. However, the Greeks had other plans and registered a thrilling win with late goal.

After the win, in a conversation with ITV, Pavlidis said that the game was a special one for them, especially for Baldock. He said that the victory was a tribute to the incredible legacy that was knitted by Baldock over the years.

He also said that it was an important win and it got even more special for the win could be attributed to the former Sheffield player. In fact, ahead of the game, he made it very clear in the huddle that the result won’t be a factor but the entire team was willing to squeeze themselves out for the all-important fixture.
