Former Teammate Defends LeBron James Over Claims of ‘Own House’ at NBA Bubble: “He Was 2 Doors Down From Me”

LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to win the 2020 NBA Championship in the Bubble the league created to keep players safe from COVID-19.

In Short
  • Markieff Morris refuted claims that LeBron James had a private house in the NBA Bubble, stating he was two doors down from him.
  • Grant Williams later apologized for sharing inaccurate information about LeBron's accommodations during the Bubble.
  • The Los Angeles Lakers are struggling, having lost their third consecutive game, raising concerns about their performance this season.

To this day, many critics try to undermine LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 NBA championship that they won during the Bubble in Orlando, Florida.

His most notable critics often argue that, since there were no real fans and the players did not have to endure the rigors of travel, the championship was too easy.

They also claim that since all the players taking part in the 2020 playoffs were housed inside the ‘Bubble Village,’ the competition factor was out of the window, as players were mostly having a good time, and became ‘friendly.’

Then there is Grant Williams, who at the time was playing for the Boston Celtics. Since he was there, the cast of the Club 520 podcast asked him about the experience. While trying to detail what they could and could not do, he said:

LeBron had his own room at the top, penthouse, wine… He had a house on the campus… They had their own setup. Their team was taken care of.

Grant Williams said

As soon as this clip went online, it caught the attention of a certain Markieff Morris, one of LeBron James‘ teammates on that championship-winning Lakers team.

Lol, cap he was two doors down from me! Dog was locked down just like the rest of us. We had a Madden league. We played all the games in his room. We was damn near gaming all night!

Markieff Morris commented on the clip

This was the forward setting the record straight, as he was living with the league’s all-time leading scorer and the other Lakers teammates in the bubble.

Grant Williams apologizes for ‘inaccurate information’ on LeBron James

Not long after Markieff Morris called ‘cap’ on Grant Williams’ claims that LeBron James had a house to himself in the NBA Bubble, the now-Charlotte Hornets star clarified his stance.

The whole team was in the hotel. Bron had a room as well. At the time, it was communicated that he had the room as well as a house on campus. I spoke with that knowledge, but I’ll say publicly I was wrong and spoke with inaccurate information.

Grant Williams replied to Markieff Morris

The 6’7″ instantly made it clear that it was something that was communicated to him, and that it turned out to be false information after Morris’ clarification.

He apologized, knowing that making claims without facts would not do him any good, especially when he has to face LeBron James in the league, who has recently started publicly confronting people about their claims.

LeBron James and Lakers lose third-straight game

That Bubble championship was the last time LeBron James held either the Larry O’Brien trophy or the Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player trophy in his hands.

He is 41 and might be hoping that his teammates can help him win another ring before he retires. But the way the Lakers have been performing, that hope might be vanishing with every game. After losing a blowout game to perennial rivals, the Boston Celtics, in the presence of Pat Riley, they lost to the Orlando Magic by a point, after Luka Doncic choked and James missed the ensuing final shot.

Earlier, against the Phoenix Suns, the hope was that the team could return to its winning ways against a team that was playing without its top two scorers. Unfortunately for them, the home team had other ideas.

With 10 seconds left and the game tied, Grayson Allen drove past Doncic and was about to lay the ball into the basket. But when he saw LeBron James come over to potentially block the shot, the Suns guard flew a pass to Collin Gillespie.

The latter saw that Royce O’Neale was open and flipped the ball to him. Since Allen took out Doncic, James, and also Jake LaRavia in that one play, all they could do was watch as O’Neale drain the three-pointer to win the game. This marks the Lakers’ third straight loss.
