World No. 2 Iga Swiatek has unfortunately been in the spotlight for negative reasons recently. The Polish tennis star was suspended by authorities after failing a doping test.

However, former World No. 1 Dinara Safina has set aside the controversies to discuss Swiatek’s on-court personality. The three-time Grand Slam finalist compared Swiatek to a “robot,” noting that the World No. 2 shows little emotion when focused on her game.

It will be interesting to watch Iga in the future. For some reason, it seems to me that her attitude masks her emotionality very well. She is a robot, she comes on the court as if she has no emotions. But I have a feeling that something could go wrong and everything could collapse. From the outside, it seems that everything is too pretentious and professional.

Swiatek faced a dip in performance in the latter half of the 2024 season, which led to her losing the No. 1 ranking to Aryna Sabalenka. Despite this setback, she has plenty to be proud of from her achievements this year.

She secured her third consecutive Roland Garros title in June and later won her first Olympic medal in Paris. Although it wasn’t gold, she took home a bronze medal, adding to her list of accomplishments.

Iga Swiatek reveals new goals for the 2025 season

Iga Swiatek finished the 2024 tennis season ranked No. 2 in the world, just behind Aryna Sabalenka. She won five titles during the year, all before Wimbledon, and is now focusing on setting “new goals” for 2025.

I’m going to start the new season with some new goals, and I’m already looking forward to it. Because we haven’t had time with Wim to practice a lot. So it’s going to be nice to try that.

Iga Swiatek said after the Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Swiatek reflected on her growth during the season, saying she improved significantly in some areas. Her season had two distinct halves, with all her victories coming early. After winning the French Open for the fourth time, she faced setbacks at the Olympics and the US Open, losing in the semifinals and quarterfinals, respectively.

Following these results, Swiatek made a coaching change, bringing Wim Fissette onto her team. She skipped tournaments before the WTA Finals but didn’t advance beyond the group stage in that event. Her season ended at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, where Poland lost to Italy in the semifinals.

Swiatek will begin 2025 ranked No. 2 in the world. Her first tournament of the new season will be the United Cup, a team event starting on December 27.
